Integrated mobile network offers hotel guests a world-class experience

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) owns and operates StarWorld Hotel and Casino, a luxury 5-Star property located on the Macau peninsula, and the organization operates four City Club Casinos in Macau. In addition, the company recently launched Galaxy Macau, a premier Asian-centric resort, entertainment and gaming destination.
Prior to its debut in 2011, Galaxy Macau was one of Asia’s most highly anticipated integrated resorts. With 50 Asian and international casual and fine dining restaurants, the world’s largest skytop wave pool, a 350-ton white sand beach, Grand Resort Deck with lush oasis gardens, and a variety of inspirational entertainment facilities, Galaxy Macau delivered on its promise with a stunning resort that lavishes its guests with countless amenities. It boasts over 2,200 rooms, suites and villas providing entertainment, creature comforts and meticulous care.
As with all the amenities the resort offers, the planning for the facility’s mobile network solution took precision. All the network technology and communications devices that were planned and integrated for Galaxy Macau were aimed at enhancing guest convenience, delivering seamless mobile connectivity and creating a magnificent overall experience.
“Extreme Networks has really helped us deliver a superb network after the team designed all aspects of the Galaxy Macau to raise the standard of service, luxury, and entertainment for our guests, delivering a second-to-none experience with world class technology,” said Ian Farnsworth, Director of Information Systems & Technology at Galaxy Entertainment Group. “From the inception of the architecture design, through all aspects of construction and installation, we have not compromised on our vision of a world-leading casino and resort.”
Galaxy Macau worked with Extreme Networks to provide high-performance mobile network solutions featuring bulletproof reliability, converged communications and unique features across the resort.
According to Farnsworth, “A critical component of the customer experience is the IT infrastructure being built to serve the resort, and for this we have chosen world-class partners to help us design and deploy that infrastructure. Extreme Networks demonstrated superb performance, extensibility and manageability throughout the process, and with these attributes, we can ensure the highest standard of availability and convenience for our guests.”
Extreme Networks provided Galaxy Macau with its BlackDiamond 8800 modular switches for its highly available core, Summit X450 and Summit X150 switches for the converged edge, and for mobility, the scalable Summit WM3700 wireless LAN controller, the AirDefense Services Platform (ADSP) and Extreme Networks Altitude Access Points (APs).
Extreme Networks Ridgeline software ties it all together with comprehensive management, simplifying configuration, troubleshooting and status monitoring, and it also allows Galaxy Macau to handle similar tasks for all switches at the same time, saving time and resources.
Extreme Networks Mobility
From Gaming, to leisure areas and back office operations, Galaxy Macau required mobile network access over wireless to serve its many guests, from anywhere they are, whether in their rooms, in the lobby, restaurants or at the gaming tables. The network had to provide fast access to their resort accounts and various mobile applications.
The Extreme Networks high-performance Ethernet solution delivers seamless wireless connectivity in concert with the wired network. Extreme Networks WLAN products are built to help ensure rapid deployment and accurate site coverage for improved data service delivery, and they incorporate a secure policy framework across the entire network backed by strong authentication, user and device awareness and constant wireless intrusion monitoring.
